Dorothy Wadham College Student Accommodation: Blending Tradition with Modern Design

In 2019, a new 135-bed student accommodation for the historic Dorothy Wadham College in Oxford was completed, featuring the Traditional Brick & Stone Mystique facing brick. This project was a delicate balance between providing modern housing for students while preserving the aesthetic heritage of the local area.

The Mystique brick, with its rustic tones of buff and mellow yellows, seamlessly integrates with the surrounding architecture, particularly the Cotswold limestone buildings that define the region. The timeless appeal of the Mystique brick complements the historic charm of the college while offering a fresh, modern feel for student housing.

Founded in 1610 and designed by William Arnold, Dorothy Wadham College is one of the last public buildings constructed in the Master Mason tradition. Therefore, selecting a facing brick that respected the original architecture was crucial to maintaining the college’s historic integrity.
